The LEAST favorite pastimes of ISTPs
So I'm looking at the "preferred activities" list for ISTPs in the MBTI manual, and it also shows the less-preferred activities. Apparently the stuff that you guys significantly disliked includes "listening to music" and "writing." (You really hated writing.)
However, you and the ESTPs didn't put "reading" down for your dislikes, though I have heard that the Artisans are the temperament that is least interested in that. (The ESFPs and ISFPs did actively dislike reading, but they also REALLY loved TV. I suspect a correlation.)
Tell me then--what do you hate doing most?

Re: The LEAST favorite pastimes of ISTPs
Well, I love listening to music and reading, and I can tolerate writing...so there goes that theory. We are Ti-dominant after all.
But what I hate the most: I hate shopping...it bores me to tears.
I'll think of more later.

This, but shopping is only for electronics or tools for me.

I LOVE going to Home Depot, Lowes, hardware stores, etc. I love looking at the power tools and all the home organization stuff. It's my porn.

I absolutely love listening to music and reading but I don't care much for writing.
Shopping bores me to death though. I remember taking a taxi to a mall once with my sisters and their older friend and I just got what I wanted and decided to walk home despite it taking an hour (and I still got home hours before they did).

I think the only shopping I like to do is for books. I could get lost in a book store for hours.
What I can't stand is the kind of power shopping that my sister does. She could go from store to store for hours, try on half the stock, end up buying three in every color, just to return 99% of it a week later. Rinse and repeat. When I get sucked into these escapades, my flat feet usually hurt after a half an hour, and I have become an expert at finding all the good sitting spots. I have fallen asleep in the mall more times than I can count.

It's those people who shop for the "best" instead of just finding something that'll work. If you hunt for the best, you'll never stop hunting, and I find that a policy of simply buying the first one fulfilling all of my criteria gives me the "best" one 90% of the time, so why bother with further shopping? It is so frustrating to find yourself on your feet for hours while you watch someone try on perfectly good clothes one after the other, and not willing to buy any of them because there might be something better out there in the cosmos.

Re: The LEAST favorite pastimes of ISTPs
My sister does it because she enjoys it. She doesn't need new clothes; she just loves them. We're very different in that respect. I usually shop for clothes and such when I have a need, and only then. Another reason I find (clothes) shopping frustrating is because I have a hard time finding clothes that fit me properly, and I'm not even fat. I feel like most of the clothes for young women are designed to be worn by pixies. I want to be dressed nice, but I also want to be comfortable. So unless I want to dress like a man or a grandma, my options are limited.

I must admit, I have always ever been thankful that men's clothes are generally baggy and comfortable, which makes them more one size fits all, and I know I can just walk up to the pants section, pick out my pants using the numbers, and never actually have to try it on. If I were a woman, I'd probably just wear men's clothes to avoid having to shop.

*shudder* That's a nightmare! If that happened to me, I would never go anywhere with that person again. She could go from store to store for hours, try on half the stock, end up buying three in every color, just to return 99% of it a week later. Rinse and repeat.

Least least favorite? Going shopping with a woman, any woman. Some others would be group activities, watching TV sitcoms, cleaning things, listening to country music.

Staged reality TV, which isn't reality. Give me discovery channel or the history channel any say over that crap.

Re: The LEAST favorite pastimes of ISTPs
I defy any man to hate shopping with me. I only go out of necessity. Recently I needed new jeans desperately. I was in Kohls for 20 minutes and came out with 2 new pairs of jeans. And that included trying them on.

I'm an ESTP and I hate reading. But I like to write (if I have nothing more stimulating to do).

When I shop by myself, this is how it usually goes down. I'm on a mission. I find what I want, I try it on, if it fits, buy it and get the hell out of there.

Re: The LEAST favorite pastimes of ISTPs
Here are a few of my pet peeves..
Listening to people tell me about their cat/dog/gerbil/ferret
Having to shop for anything other than tools or cars
Listening to people whine about how "hard" their lives are
Watching someone with a Mustang GT 500 take 5 minutes to back his car up because he bought a stick and doesnt know how to drive it
Watching anything on TV that tries to make me "feel" something..Id much rather learn something...
People who say what others want to hear vs. what they need to hear
rusty tools
people who buy a brand new 400$ arc welder from Lowes when they can get it off some guy on craigslist for about 150 clams
Chic flics
Schedules
Routines
Narcissitic gym rats who tell me that they weigh their chicken breast on a electric scale....yet they cant change a flat tire or read a map.
men who dont know how to sharpen knives
poorly maintained rifles, pistols, shotguns
buying lumber from Lowes / Home Depot at a ridiculous markup...when you could buy a woodmizer sawmill, knock down a few pine trees and do the job for much less.....

I actively seek music, writing, and reading as outlets and adore them.
I'd say, if there's one activity I loathe, it is shopping for anything other than food. I can't stand the assumption that having a vagina means that I like being dragged through a mall, to look and try on crap I can't afford, and be asked my opinion on my friends' choices in clothing that I care nothing about.
