Enneagram type help
So a while ago I did some work on figuring out my Enneagram type and settled on myself as a 6w5. In the last few days I have been reinvestigating my Enneagram type just for fun. I have taken a slew of tests and most of them peg me firstly as a type 1then type 5, then type 6. All the result scores are virtually the same, so I am very confused.
I have read some of the descriptions for all of these types and I can't really see the inherent differences. They all sound so similar! Any tips?

Re: Enneagram type help
Yeah best way to tell is: what are you afraid of? what is something you'd never do without, or what is something that compells you to behave a certain way out of fear? Yet even that method is tough for me because I am nearly afraid of nothing but I get stressed out over things sometimes.
The other way is to think about what kind of a person you'd be if you're life was in complete disaster and you became extremely mentally unhealthy. For 3's they become narcissists bent on destroying everyone else's happiness, 8's become destructive sociopaths, I think 5's become explosively schitsophrenic and self destructive, while 6's get sorta suicidal. etc

Re: Enneagram type help
I would definitely turn aggression inwards, not outwards. I could see myself becoming self destructive and, yeah, maybe even suicidal if it got bad enough. I don't think I would go through with it.
Type 1
Underlying motive: Justice, Correctness
Strives for: Fairness, Improvement
When healthy: Spontaneous, Joyful
When stressed: Moody, Impatient
This really seems like me, though I am impatient all the time and I'm rarely moody or really joyful. I don't express emotions really. I can seem outgoing and charming but thus is usually a means to and end.
Type 3
Underlying motive: Advancement, Ambition
Strives for: High Status, Good Image
When healthy: Cooperative, Caring
When stressed: Disengaged, Apathetic
No I don't really seek status or advancement except where it gets me acclaim and acknowledgement that my work was superior.
Type 5
Underlying motive: Curiosity, Development
Strives for: Knowledge, Innovation
When healthy: Confident, Decisive
When stressed: Hyperactive, Scattered
I am very curious and confident and decisive. I can't remember ever feeling hyperactive. I do like to do research on anything that catches my attention.
Type 6
Underlying motive: Security, Trust
Strives for: Reliability, Commitment
When healthy: Relaxed, Optimistic
When stressed: Arrogant, Pessimistic
I used to think this was really me and I still really identify with this. I do have anxiety but I don't strive for reliability and commitment. I'm not pessimistic.
I think want I really want is to be right. I value logical correctness and justice. I guess that makes me a 1.

Re: Enneagram type help
I'm currently looking at 3 and I'm excited about it. I really see myself, though I hate the whole concept of being image conscious. I want to present my best face forward, but don't really care what people think about me, except at work. At work I want to be seen as an expert. But something about the 3 mentality really speaks to me.
I'm thinking of 3w4. I'm more of an introvert, and not really flashy like a 3w2 is described as being.

Re: Enneagram type help
Let me know how that works. 3w4 is my image-fix. It would also make sense that as a 3, you could think that you're a 6, since those two types are connected by integration.

Re: Enneagram type help
I'm not sure what it is. I'm thinking sp/sx/so.
I have pretty much embraced 3w4 as my core type. I still have some more reading to do, especially deciding my gut and head fixes. I do have quite a bit of 6ish anxiety, but it all seems to revolve around making sure that the image I present to the world is exactly as I want. I'm not a narcissist, though, and really not status conscious. 6w5 will probably end up being my head fix.
