Human nature

Post by MXZCCT on Tue Jun 26, 2012 5:01 pm

I've been watching some riots. I have to wonder if irrational behavior can have a tendency to be more prominent in certain traits of MBTI individuals who are unable to detach themselves from a situation as easily as ISTP's can.

Also I tend to be wary of individuals who "believe deeply" in one ideal or another. A good example is religious extremism, where individuals can rationalize any thought, word, or action to an ideal believed to be on a higher plane than our current society.

People love to be caught up in a fervor simply to be apart of a greater force.

Thoughts?

If you had ever had religious fervor, you would know that there is no greater feeling. You are always right and justified. Your anger is righteous anger, and you don't have to feel bad about anything you do because you are defending the "truth". I mean seriously, there is no greater positive feedback mechanism than that for getting so far off that you, say, bomb a bunch of school children.

I used religious fervor as one possible example. I was looking at human nature as a whole, and was trying to find specific indicators that could be tied to MBTI.

Yep, i was off topic. Didn't connect that it's one of two basic possibilities, IMO: You've got the feeler who wants to feel good, and gives themselves over to the fervor, and you've got the thinker, who becomes locked into it being the "right" thing....so...pretty much an XXFP or an XXTJ Possibly an XXFJ...not sure though.

I don't actually think religious fervor has any strong correlation to certain MB types or functions. I think this is the kind of thing where different functions could come to the same effect.

One of the key ingredients for these people to get out of hand is, there must be a strong sense of dissatisfaction in their lives.

Much easier that way to put the blame on another group of individuals.

mmmm.........

any type of indignation can -hit- anyone, regardless of type, or ...any sort of dichotomy, really. I've seen ISTPs getting onto a discussion with a heat of the sun, and an ENFJ that's able to keep their own head cool and understanding other party's perspective during a heated debate.

As far as my own observation goes (so yeah, take it with a grain of salt), there are certain similarities between the most extreme forms of religious superiority / Bioware enthusiast / Marvel antifan / GLBT fighter / feminist supporter / any sort of attachment, really.

And it's not only in regards to groups / associations; even for family / friends / close ones... People can be -very- irrational. committed. passionate. aggressive. Any type.

Worse?

They think they're completely logical. Rational.
(a.k.a justified)

For better or worse.

Not to mention there are other modifiers in effect...
